Cornwall again
Further to my other posting there is now a White Billed Diver at Hayle. In fact the very spot where I spent many, many hours during my two weeks there last year and managed a Curlew, Little Egret and a Clouded Yellow !! Is there no justice.......................

Willow Tit
This was a first for me at Thornton but one the feeder at the Reservoir on Saturday. Nothing else of note other than good numbers of Goldcrest and large groups of Redwing presumably getting ready to head off. It appears that Cornwall is the place to be at the moment with Gyr Falcon, Spotted Sandpiper, Dusky Warbler, Yellow Browed Warbler, Hoopoe and the 'Central Asian' Lesser Whitethroat !! Quite a haul for February.
No mothing this weekend but I hope to have the MV operational next weekend, depending upon the weather.

September Weekend in Norfolk
The 7th - 9th of September this year see's Chris Hubbards 40th birthday. He has decided to have a weekender in Norfolk (suits me!) Unlike my own hastily organised budget birding breaks, Chris has gone to the other end of the spectrum and rented an 18th Century Manor House for the weekend!! Saying that, it does appear to have a fantastic garden right on the sea front so mothing will take place in earnest over those two nights. The weekend has a slight golf bias to it but as a non-golfer I'm sure I can occupy myself for a few hours with a bit of birding. Can't wait......
Pale Brindled Beauty
I formally declare the 2007 Mothing season well and truly open ! I ran the trap on Saturday night and managed 1 Pale Brindled Beauty. New to me and the garden. Sign of things to come hopefully.

Another E Bay bargain...
Arrived yesterday ! Complete set of The Entomologists Record and Journal of Variation. I started subscribing in 2004 but managed to net the complete sets from 1996 to 2003 for the princely sum of £9.99 plus P&P. Noramlly rate is £28.00 per year so what a whacking saving. All in mint condition as well. Stacks of entomological stuff on ebay. Worth a regular peek.

Welcome to my new home on the web !!!
After much deliberation I am in the process of ditching the www.thorntonmothman.com domain name. Realistically, the site isn't packed with thousands of pictures, so I don't need to be coughing up for unlimited page space coupled with the fact that the cost of having the domain name has increased since it was first registered. All I ever really wanted to do was keep an online diary on birding and moth hunters gossip, so here it is. All the old stuff on the original site will stay there for a bit and then disappear into cyberspace
I'm hopeful that I will keep this blog updated on a pretty regular basis, particularly during the summer months when the moth trap is active.
