Dark Green Fritillary
I had the latest edition of the Leicestershire Ent Soc newsletter this week and it was bumper packed. A very good read. Of real interest was a short article about a visit to Browns Wood by an emminent local lepidopterist who recorded the above butterfly. Don't you just hate it when that happens on your local patch.......

Sounds a bit like Leicester scoring whilst you have nipped to the loo !
Or finding out that the bird you were convinced was a Siberian Chiffchaff was in fact an over-wintering Willow Warbler !

Hi Russ, is the sighting genuine? Are there any photos of the little bugger? Habitat doesn't seem right to me. I would think Silver-washed more likely. Dave Gray found one a few years ago at Cloud Wood that was seen by Carl and myself and photographed by Carl.
Habitat is perfect John. Browns Wood is still in its infancy with plenty of open, flower rich areas and scrub. It was Harry Ball who found it with a n other. Silver Washed is largely found in broad leaved woodland and whilst there is the big wood behind the res I think the ID is probably correct. There have been odd sightings over the last few years in the Hinckley area so who knows......
Ishall be staking out browns wood in late july and august. Where did he see it? If it is genuine then it can be added to the list of browns wood goodies like great crested newt, barn owl, roe deer, badger, and of course Stone Curlew.

Ok we can add muntjac but it is an introduction.That,s why I didn,t mention the cloud leopard I had during the recent snows!
Surely that would have been a Snow Leopard Andy. Cloud Leopard is more a rainforest animal...
This is just getting silly now...........
