County Mega - Prediction

This is based on nothing remotely scientific just a feeling in my water BUT watch this space. My prediction this winter, somewhere in VC55, is for Dartford Warbler....You have been warned......

I agree, Russ. I've been expecting one for a long time. Trouble is, where is it going to be? They often hang out with Stonechats, so perhaps Bradgate Park might be a good bet? Or Charnwood Lodge? They certainly don't need gorse in the winter - I once saw one in brambles at Hollowell Res in Northants.

I have a cracking Stonechat site with several wintering near Cliffe Hill Quarry so I know where my money is.....I think in winter though they could (but probably wont) turn up anywhere. As Shaw Taylor used to say 'kepp 'em peeled'....

Actually Shaw Taylor used to say 'keep 'em peeled' not 'kepp em peeled'......

Given recent events - my money is on one being found late afternoon at Cossington Meadows with the news coming out less than half an hour before dark ......

ha ha you may well be right. But as Andy's Northants individual proves they can crop up anywhere in the winter months. Look at the Pride Park one the other year. Although I think it was in the nearby NR rather than in the kop.....

Apart from The Owls less than annual visits that was the only decent thing to be seen at Pride Park!

Just to buck the trend I don't think Dartford Warbler will turn up this year!
I reckon it will something totally outrageous like a Surf Scoter or a White-billed Diver?!
Keep your eyes peeled!

Buck away Dave. Surf Scoter probably isn't that outrageous given the 3rd British inland record came from Grafham but White Billed Diver? Anything is possible I guess.........
